Exciting developments are afoot over here at Davidliss.com. The biggest news is that the title of my next novel has been changed from The Darkening Green to The Twelfth Enchantment. I argued for Revenge of the Jedi, but no one listened to me. It also looks like the publication date has been moved up to August. I will post more details, including tour dates, when they become available.
This cover art is final, or near final, or not final. I’m not sure which. But I think it’s final, so let’s pretend that it is. Let me know what you think.

The new cover is moving from a more 18th Century to something else entirely. Not having read the book, it is hard to know how appropriate the new cover is. I guess I’m saying I like the previous proof covers better.
Perhaps that something else is the 19th century, in which the novel is set.
Hmm.. looks okay – if it’s set in Regency times then it suits. A little Jane Austen even.
I think it’s lovely. So much more appropriate for the Regency period than the other covers. And I love the colors!
I don’t know enough about the book to like the new title. I feel like it should be named what the author says it should be named. Therefore, if not “The Darkening Green”, then the unused title “Revenge of the Jedi” suits me as well. “The Twelfth Enchantment” will surely entice the Harry Potter crowd.
A bit less mysterious-looking than the first proposed cover for The Darkening Green, but I like it nonetheless. Of course, I could offer a far better assessment if I had an advance copy of The Twelfth Enchantment. I’m just saying…
Love the cover and better than the cover will be the read. Taking me back to the 1800′s once again. Can’t wait. I mean I REALLY can’t wait! Any idea of the aprox release date? This is the best news David. Congrats. I’m sure this will be yet another great journey for me. Happy Passover or what’s left of it.
LOVE IT!! Can’t wait!
I plan on spending more time on the pages than staring at the cover so I’m fine with it. Cover art plays more of a role for new authors trying to capture the eye of a casual reader looking for a new book. The cover could have a paper clip on it and we would all buy it and read just the same. I can’t wait David … good luck !
I like it!!!
It’s ok. Looks too much like Jane Austen meets Shakespeare but maybe that fits the book.
Looks too dolled up. I’ve read your previous historical novels and absolutely loved them. I’m afraid if i had not known your previous works I would label this as a book that my wife would love and sooner or later force me to watch the movie. We all know how poorly movies preserve the story of a great book.
